Here in the Thermo Fisher One Lambda Clinical Lab at Fishers, IN, we are working towards bringing molecular technologies from bench-to-bedside and improving patient diagnostics and, are looking for a full-time HLA Technologist to join the core team.
Discover Impactful Work:
HLA technologist shall be working under direct technical lead of the Laboratory Supervisor and HLA Technical Director and will be performing technical and scientific processes in a high-complexity clinical diagnostics laboratory. This position requires handling clinical samples, performing routine molecular biology techniques and perform highly specialized testing such as HLA typing by multiple methods and HLA antibody monitoring pre- and post-transplant. All testing and tasks shall be performed in accordance with established departmental and quality control procedures and laboratory-approved protocols.
A day in the Life:
- Receive, accession and prepare (handling and storing) human specimens for testing according to established laboratory procedures and protocols.
- Performs complex laboratory procedures (Flow Cytometry, PCR, NGS) utilized to evaluate donors and recipients for transplantation and HLA typing of Deceased Donors.
- Participates in competency assessments and proficiency testing.
- HLA Antibody screening using serological and solid phase techniques.
- Be proficient in analyzing data using various data analysis software (i.e., Histotrac, HLA Fusion), documenting results, and following laboratory’s directives for reporting and maintaining complete and accurate test records.
- Perform daily function checks and routine preventative maintenance and calibration procedures.
- Support and align with the company’s Quality Management System policies and procedures.
- Follow CLIA, CAP, HIPAA, OSHA, and safety guidelines as stipulated in their documents.
- Provide initial troubleshooting and problem solving for NGS and PCR based molecular testing and notify issues when required.
- Maintain a safe work environment and wear appropriate personal protective equipment.
- Interact daily with LIMS, respond to queries, prepare reports and track specimens.
- Position may require interaction with the R&D team on regular basis regarding protocols, data analysis training or other related issues.
There is a potential to learn and grow as we adopt and adapt novel esoteric testing and molecular biology technologies at this site. Protocols and test procedures, duties and responsibilities for this position will be subject to change.
Keys to Success:
Education
- Bachelor’s Degree in medical technology, biological or clinical laboratory science or a related field (such as, molecular biology, biochemistry). Masters preferred.
Experience
- Minimum two (2) years of experience in a clinical HLA laboratory performing testing procedures and techniques.
- Solid, BM Transplantation and other HLA testing experience.
- Flow crossmatch, Luminex, Sanger Sequencing and NGS experience.
Knowledge, Skills, Abilities
- Experience in College of American Pathologist (CAP) accredited laboratory or American Society for Histocompatibility and Immunogenetics (ASHI)
- CHT or CHS certification preferred.
