SUMMARY: Peer tutors assist other StMU students in becoming a more successful and independent learner. Peer tutors provide and help to integrate effective learning and study strategies for their assigned students, while at the same time helping to clarify and/or reinforce course content, assignments and material. Peer tutors are held to the same standard as any St. Mary’s University employee. The peer tutor is an extension of St. Mary’s University and will conduct themselves in a professional manner at all times. Please refer to the Code of Ethics provided in the RSC Tutor Handbook online for more information.
JOB DETAILS: Position begins Fall 2024, with possible renewal for Spring 2025 semester. Position pays $9.00 hr. Approximately 2 hrs. per course, schedule varies; tutoring sessions are limited to no longer than 1 hour, with 1 additional hour for tutoring preparation and/or paperwork.
ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:
- Provides individualized content and skill-development tutoring to assigned students (tutees).
- Creates and maintains a tutoring schedule convenient to both tutor and tutee.
- Maintains accurate and up-to-date records of each tutoring session using standard departmental forms.
- Attends and completes tutor training and development sessions as required by department leadership.
- Makes appropriate student referrals to college offices, departments or professionals, when necessary.
- Develops a good understanding and knowledge of college services, supports, and resources.
- Maintains strict confidentiality of all student information, material, and discussions shared in the tutoring relationship.
- Performs other duties as assigned.
REQUIRED QUALIFICATIONS:
· Completion of at least one semester of study at St. Mary’s University; Must maintain active enrollment at St. Mary’s University while tutoring.
· Must have recorded A or higher in course(s) being tutored and a GPA of 3.0 or higher; must be in Good academic and student conduct standing.
· Must have positive instructor referral/recommendation for course(s) being tutored.
· Must be conscientious, prompt and have respect for the confidential nature of the office.
· Must have knowledge of Microsoft Office (Word, Excel, PowerPoint)
· Strong written, verbal and interpersonal communication skills are necessary.
· Professional demeanor, appearance and strong work ethic.
· ability to take initiative, work independently, meet timelines, organize information, and attention to details.

PHYSICAL DEMANDS:
· Working conditions include a combination of working in the office and remotely as needed.
· Must be able to move across the university campus to conduct day to day business.
