SUMMARY: St. Mary’s University’s Office of Community-Based Research (CBR) provides assistance to local non-profit organizations that seek consultation on various aspects of grant writing, program evaluation, and assessment activities. CBR also provides services to on-campus faculty who have or are seeking external funding. The mission of the office is to practice the Marianist charism by increasing the internal capacity of local San Antonio non-profit organizations to conduct culturally responsive assessments and evaluations that lead to a more healthful and just social ecology. CBR is affiliated with the Center for Culturally Responsive Evaluation and Assessment (CREA) at the University of Illinois at Urbana-Champaign.
JOB DETAILS: Average of 20 hours per week, Monday through Friday, during standard business hours (8:00 am to 5:00 pm) but must be flexible for nights and weekends; Fall and Spring semester with possibility of summer. ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:
· Assists with evaluation projects
· Reads assigned material on the intersections of race, class, and gender
· Actively engages in dialogue with other CBR staff about how social identities and power impact the assessment and evaluation processes.
· Performs general duties related to day-to-day operations including data entry and records management, on campus errands, as well as special projects.
· Perform other duties as assigned.
QUALIFICATIONS:
· Due to federal grant regulations, applicant must be a U.S. citizen
·Earned baccalaureate degree and enrolled as a post-baccalaureate student at St. Mary’s University
· Experience with data collection and analysis preferred. Experience in event management is preferable.
· Must be in good academic and student conduct standing.
· Must be willing and able to work flexible hours — after normal business hours, some evenings and weekends as needed for events.
· Must be conscientious, prompt and have respect for the confidential nature of the office.
· Must have knowledge of Microsoft Office (Word, Excel, PowerPoint) willing to learn and use additional programs.
· Knowledge of telephone etiquette and general office equipment.
· Ability to use and design marketing materials and websites is preferred.
· Strong written, verbal, and interpersonal communication skills are necessary. Excellent customer service skills including flexibility. Comfortable working with diverse populations.
· Strong organizational, critical thinking and problem-solving skills, and detail oriented. Ability to multi-task and work both independently and collaboratively.
· Professional demeanor, appearance, and strong work ethic.
· Ability to take initiative, work independently, meet timelines, organize information, and attend to details
NOTE: Opportunities for applied work and scholarship will be determined by the overall readiness of staff members, including both knowledge and facility with technical aspects of evaluation and assessment and the theoretical perspective from which the staff member emanates.
PHYSICAL DEMANDS:
· Must be able to move across the university campus to conduct day to day business.
· While performing this role, the employee will be regularly required to sit, walk, and stand; talk and hear, both in person and by telephone; and use hands repetitively to operate standard office equipment; and occasionally required to lift up to 25 pounds.
· Specific vision abilities required by this position include close vision, distance vision, and the ability to adjust focus.
· Frequently communicates with others using approved technological resources; must be able to exchange accurate information through designated systems within a timely manner.
· Constantly operates a computer and other office productivity machinery.
