Join us for some tips on how to ace your next interview and hear from some of our early career engineers, including two recent St. Mary’s grads, about their advice on interviewing for internships and full-time jobs and preparing for career success. They will be eager to answer your questions so feel free to ask for their perspectives!

Presenters: Preston Hicks, Ethan Q Miller, Marcella Jerez, Lucia Ortiz, Terri Creech

  • Marcella Jerez: Marcella interned with International Paper in 2015 and 2016. After graduating from Mississippi State in 2018 with her Electrical Engineering degree, she joined the team full time to work as a Reliability Engineer. She served as a supervisor for two years, and is now working as a Capital Engineer managing projects.
  • Q Miller: Q is a Saint Mary’s alumnus. He graduated in 2023 with a mechanical engineering degree. After graduating, he began working at International Paper, starting as a mechanical reliability engineer for Pulp, Power, and Recovery. He has recently transitioned to a process engineering role in the Pulp Mill.
  • Preston Hicks: Preston graduated from St. Mary’s University in 2022 with a degree in Industrial Engineering. Upon graduation he joined International Paper at the Red River Mill, working as a Mechanical Reliability Engineer for Paper Machine1 and the Recycle department. He has been in the role for a little over 2 years now. Prior to International Paper, he had engineering experience in food manufacturing at C.H. Guenther & Son.
  • Lucia Ortiz: Lucia graduated from University of Memphis with a Bachelor Degree in Business Administration and a Minor in Management. With her background in Human Resources she has been working at International Paper 13 years ago. Lucia has been part of the REACH Team for 11 years, currently managing the REACH Intern/Co-Op program for all our US Mill Facilities, as well as supporting Full Time recruiting.
  • Terri Creech: Terri manages the REACH Program for International Paper; this is the company’s college recruiting and development program for engineering and safety professionals. She has been with IP for nearly 25 years and has led this program for more than 22 years. She graduated from Xavier University in Cincinnati, OH, with a double major in Psychology and Communication Arts, and later with an MBA. Prior to joining IP, Terri worked in educational publishing for many years. She has been recruiting St. Mary’s students since spring of 2022.
