Summer Undergraduate Research Fellowship

The Summer Undergraduate Research Fellowship application is now available in Gateway on the OSRI website.

Applications are due March 20, 2023 and recipients will be announced at the awards ceremony for Research Showcase on April 18, 2023.

The Office of Student Research and Inquiry (OSRI) anticipates awarding fellowships to students interested in pursuing their research and creative activity during summer 2023. The fellowships will be distributed among the three schools (BGSB, CAHSS, & SET) based upon the number of proposals received from each school. Proposals from all academic disciplines are welcome and strongly encouraged.

Fellowship Information

The fellowships provide funds for undergraduate students to participate with faculty mentors in an intensive eight-week (June 1 – July 28, 2023) scholarly activity. Each fellowship will provide a $2,500 student stipend and a $1,000 faculty stipend. Two or more faculty may elect to share the faculty stipend. An additional $500 may be requested to purchase supplies and/or travel to support the student’s project. The student stipends will be paid in three installments. The first installment ($1,000) will be made at the end of June 2023, contingent upon attendance at an introductory meeting for students and faculty mentors. The second installment ($1,000) will be made after the interim report (due July 1) is received. The second installment should be made before the end of July 2023. One-half of the final installment ($250) of the student stipend and 100% of the faculty stipend will be paid after the submission of a final report and survey. The program ends on July 28 and the final report will be due on August 11, 2023. Students will receive the final $250 of their last installment in April 2024, after they give their final oral presentations at the spring Annual Research Symposium and Creative Activities Exhibition.
